Courses Offered / Pricing
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in-person and online classes are held three times per year.
The class is 12 weeks long.
In Person Classes
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) care for the sick or injured in emergency settings, perform emergent medical services, and transport patients to medical facilities. Working as an EMT can be a rewarding job and provides many opportunities for advancement and growth if you want to make it a career.
In order to receive an EMT license, you must successfully complete a formal EMT course and pass a national certification practical and written exam provided by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
Madison Fire Department offers hybrid-learning courses that will provide the training necessary to become certified.
Our classes will cover how to assess patients, administer medications, and will teach skills such as managing respiratory, medical, trauma, and cardiac emergencies. The program will also provide instruction and practice in how to deal with bleeding, fractures, airway obstruction, emergency childbirth, cardiac arrest, and other common emergencies. Students will additionally learn how to use and maintain common emergency equipment such as AEDs, backboards, suction devices, splints, oxygen delivery systems, and stretchers. Lastly, this course will allow you to spend time on an ambulance and experience how these skills are put to use.
Requirements:
- Must Be at least 16 years of age by the completion of the course
- Cannot have any felonies on record
- Must have access to a computer or tablet, and the internet
- Must be willing to get, or show proof of, current flu shot and TB test
Costs:
- Tuition – $1250
- Textbook – Students must purchase either a digital or hard copy on their own.
